ADELAIDE SETS THE TEMPO.

ICT Industry Evening of Celebration December 2006

This highly successful event was held at the National Wine Centre of Australia, on the 14th of December 2006. The number in attendance (over 70) suited ideally the size and configuration of the venue. In addition, several comments have been received informally about the high calibre of the attendees.

The official guests were Ray Garrand, Chief Executive of DTED, and Air Vice  Marshall Roxley McLennan, Chief Executive of the Defence Unit. Ray spoke on the future of the technology industry and SA’s successes in innovation. Roxley’s talk about the importance of defence to SA’s ongoing economic health was thought provoking and his view of the future and the sustainability of the defence industry, combined with the importance of the technology industry partnerships with defence was particularly insightful.

Proceedings were opened by the Chair of the ICT Council for SA, Dean Littlefield, who spoke on his view of the place of the ICT Council and the industry for the future.

Adrian de Brenni, on behalf of the Australian Telecommunications User Group, gave an entertaining review of the year in the telecommunications industry. Adrian coined some new catch phrases in the process of giving some cogent advice relating industry trends to our everyday telecommunications use.

Christine Cromarty’s inspiring talk on the export project, including highlights of the year, particularly the Broadband summit, will remain with the audience for some time. I t was particularly interesting to note Christine’s perspective as a former US resident that Adelaide’s view of itself as ‘small’ is not only unnecessarily pessimistic, but when judged by US standards, not factually correct. Think big, Adelaide.

New members James Gall & Associates, e-channel, Leader Systems, Succinct Ideas and Hood Sweeney Technology were welcomed and presented their certificates by Ray Garrand.
