In considering the concept of a brand identity it is important to note that the ICT industry is a major growth sector for South Australia.  Recent estimates have suggested that the industry supports up to 30,000 jobs and contributes over $3bn per annum to the economy.  (These details will be confirmed in an industry wide survey proposed by the IT Council for South Australia and programmed to occur in early 2003).

The industry also represents the activities of some 1,600 organisations, including the local operations of multi-nationals (like EDS, Microsoft, HP, Motorola, BAE Systems and SAAB), large companies based in South Australia (like Clipsal, ) and an increasing number of creative and innovative solution providers (like Strateric Data Management, Advanced Automated Robotic Manufacturing, CAMMS, Intec Consulting Group, KoJo, Ratbag Games, E-Word and Hostworks).  All of these companies and the hundreds of small and establishing organisations will benefit from affiliation with the SolutionCity identity, with its success contributing to the creation of more jobs and economic value in South Australia.

 

ICT as an industry is pervasive, and at the same time becoming less visible because it’s such an integral part of what we do as individuals and how all businesses operate. The ICT industry has achieved this pervasive position in a relatively short time span, unlike some of the other industries (or infrastructure) that we also often take for granted, like transport and electricity.  However, while not in its infancy the ICT industry is still only in its adolescence. There will be only greater impact on our lives and businesses as ICT continues to mature, one example will be greater access to broadband communications and the more sophisticated applications that can be supported across all industries.
