The School of Computer and Information Science (Mawson Lakes and City West Campuses) has highly qualified and experienced staff. Its objectives two-fold; to produce knowledgeable and well-equipped graduates and to fulfil industry demands. To achieve these objectives, the School has designed its programs according to global industry needs, and in a way that provides students with a smooth path to learning.
An extensive selection of degree, double degree, and postgraduate programs is offered at the School (see ‘Education and Training’ section above for program disciplines). An additional honours year, or the opportunity to study honours in the final year, is available for high achieving students in most undergraduate programs. The School also offers a professional doctorate program in collaboration with industry partners, as well as a Masters and PhD program by research.
Students interested in the Bachelor of Business Information Systems can transfer into this two-year program after completing two years of undergraduate study covering business, information systems and management; achieving at least a credit average; and passing an interview. Those students who successfully complete the program then go on to study the Master of Business Information Systems.
In 2006, the School will offer a new joint IT program (Bachelor of Computer and Information Science) involving the TAFE SA Panorama Campus. This program is a significant initiative for the School and University of South Australia as it will strengthen existing relationships with TAFE SA and provide opportunities for students to experience a blend of academic and vocational education.
The School prides itself on its links with the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry and opportunities for students whilst studying and upon graduating. In 2005, the School launched an Industry Affiliate Program (IAP) aimed at establishing ongoing, mutually beneficial relationships with qualified people and organisations in industry based upon ‘real world’ applications. For further details, visit the IAP website link at www.cis.unisa.edu.au/iap.

Customer Success Stories

“The Business Information Systems Cooperative Program offers students unique opportunities to participate in real-world industry projects with some of Australia's leading edge companies. I was attracted to the Program by the potential to gain rich industry experience and enhanced employment prospects, in a program tailored to meet contemporary business needs. In a dynamic environment, highly motivated and high achieving students are brought together and presented with a challenging, varied and exciting learning environment. Some of the benefits that flow on from the program are the networking opportunities and developing the skills to work confidently and professionally both autonomously and as a valued team member.”
