Corporate template solution
 

The Office of Local Government’s primary objective is to provide leadership within the State Government by promoting shared strategic directions and effective working relationships between State and Local Government.

The Office of Local Government (OLG) selected eWord Development’s Corporate template solution as a easy to use & administer document preparation environment. A range of business specific documents and form templates were developed to suit OLG’s specific requirements including:

The product is recognised as a ground-breaking and novel approach to teaching children computer and literacy skills, as well as engendering life-skills through familiarity with Microsoft Office, the world's most prolific business software.

Sold throughout Australia, US and UK through a Reseller network, Max's Sandbox has been acknowledged by Education and ICT bodies internationally for innovation.

Max's Sandbox is add-on functionality for Microsoft Office 2000 or Office XP, and magically converts Word into "MaxWrite", PowerPoint into "MaxShow" and Excel into "MaxCount". A version of MaxWrite is also available for Word 97

Max's Sandbox also includes:

"DoodlePad" - a simple children's graphics editor that can draw pictures or edit the in-built clip art
"Peedy" - a text to speech software robot who reads out loud the text in documents on demand

Web Templates
In response to increasing interest in using intranets as repositories for Corporate correspondence templates and e-forms, eWord Development has developed the “Web Template Solution”.

This innovative software solution provides on-demand delivery of Office templates from a central intranet directly to an end-user’s system. Background version checking ensures that users are provided with the latest version template. Microsoft Office integration also provides convenient access for web templates via a smart menu on the Office toolbar for templates that have previously been accessed.

Deployment & Support
Client installation occurs automatically when the user first visits the intranet web templates page and selects their first web template. ActiveX and its associated deployment technology also automatically detect and download updated versions of the ActiveX control deployed to the web server.

SharePoint Portal server compatible !
Web templates complement Microsoft’s document portal environment, SharePoint Portal Server, providing a comprehensive solution for document creation and management.

Detailed Description
There are several components in this solution as outlined below:

Intranet page
The intranet page displays a list of available templates, allowing the user to make a selection to suit their specific needs. 
An Active Server Page (ASP) menu lists available web templates, including elements of metadata extracted directly from the template to assist the user in making an informed selection.  Clicking on the associated template link starts the download management process.

Download Control
An ActiveX control oversees the template download process, initially testing if the selected template already exists in the user’s local cache and if so, establishing if it is the same version on as the intranet page. The control will either download the template or use the cached version, and then launch the Microsoft Office product associated with the template to activate it. 
In addition, should the user be working offline, the control will automatically use the cached version of any selected template.

Office Menu
The download management software also deploys a control file to manage the Web Template menu bar inside Microsoft Office, where the template can be conveniently accessed direct from a toolbar menu.
The menu is dynamically updated as a new template is used, providing single point access for templates that the user regularly utilises.

Requirements
Server:   Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 4.0 or later.
Client:    Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or later.
             Microsoft Office 97 or later.

Summary
eWord Development’s Web Template solution provides a number of intranet-enhancing capabilities:

 The same Microsoft templates can be used for file system and intranet distribution.

·         Microsoft Office templates can be used on intranets as “intelligent” online forms.

·         Provides a simple centralised form and template distribution solution.

·         Reduces intranet LAN and WAN traffic by selectively downloading updated forms.

·         Improves user access time to online forms, especially for remote users.

·         Provides seamless offline access to templates and forms.
